The department of Zoology was set up in 1966 with Dr. SubhashSaxena as its head and student strength of 45 in B.Sc. Part I. Dr. P.P. Kudesia assumed charge of the department after Dr. SubhashSaxena. He was then joined by Dr. V.V. Kulshrestha, Dr. V.C. Varshney and Dr. Rajeev Mishra. Their efforts were instrumental in the favourable rating obtained by the department when S.V. College was designated lead college of the region. After the retirement of Dr. P.P. Kudesia and Dr. V.V. Kulshrestha Mr. VikasYadav was appointed as lecturer in the year 2002, and the inchargeship of the department passed on to Dr. V. C. Varshney. Under his guidance and with the efforts of his colleagues, the department made rapid progress. Dr. Harendra Gaur joined the department in 2006. Dr. V.C. Varshney retired in 2013 and Mr. VikasYadav was appointed as the incharge of the department. The department of Zoology today aspires to be the best department for under graduate studies in Zoology in the university. The department has a current student strength of approximately 440. Although this increase in number has translated into the need for more faculty members, the current faculty members are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that staff shortage does not prove a stumbling block in their aim of providing a holistic learning experience to the students.
