Shri Varshney College has a separate department of Physical Education in the college. The Department deals with the teaching of physical education to undergraduate students and provides support for sports activities to all students of the college. The department follows the annual calendar and and programme provided by the University, i.e., Dr. B.R.A.U, Agra. Students participate in various sports and games like inter-collegiate tournaments of the university and are regularly selected in various teams of the university. Every year, many students also represent the university in North Zone and all India inter university tournaments. The department works under the guidance and advice of the Principal of the college and the vice-chairman and members of the games committee. The college has hosted several inter-collegiate tournaments of Dr. B.R.A.U., Agra. The teaching workload and sports activities of the department are ably managed by Mr. Shahnawaz Khan, its sole teacher.
Student and Teacher Strength – Department of Physical Education has a sanctioned strength of 4 teachers to teach about 120 undergraduate students. Besides students who opt for physical education as one of the subjects, approximately 200 students participate in sports activities regularly practice different kind of sports and games.
Learning Resources –The department has facilities for Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Hand ball, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Cricket, Korfball, Weight Lifting, Power Lifting, Boxing etc. The department library has about 100 Books.
Additional Study Material – Various sports coaching based videos are shown to the students. In-class notes, additional reading material and appropriate references, online and physical resources are provided to the students.
Assessment–Regular assessment of students ensures timely feedback for their improvement.
Learning Outcome – The department has a consistent record with an average pass percentage of around 80 %. Players of different sports/games are regularly selected in University team and represent the university in north zone as well as all India inter-varsity competitions.
Best Practices – The department regularly organises coaching camps and involves students to practice different sports and games. Besides the lecture method used for class room teaching, other methods like ICT learning, group discussion, assignment, E-learning through whats app groups are frequently used for better understanding. The department engages the students in various committees like games committee, students sports council, physical education association and mentors. Teachers guide the students to take up initiative like “SPORTASAVA” an annual cultural festival of the department. Beside these activities, students regularly participate in different inter-collegiate sports competition of the university as per the university sports calendar.
Feedback from Stakeholders – To identify the needs of students, feedback is collected from both students and parents.
Research and Publications- Mr. Shahanawaz Khan, the sole teacher of the department is activity engaged in writing books, research papers, participates in seminars, workshop, training courses etc.
