Botany as a subject was introduced in the college along with other science subjects in July 1966 at the undergraduate level. When the deptt.was started in 1966, it had only 45 students in B.Sc. I and 19 in B.Sc. II.Since than the strength has shown steady increase in the coming years.
In the starting phase, only one Shri A.C. Varshney Worked as Head and with the starting of B.Sc. II, Shri K.P. Varshney was appointed as lecturer in Botany from August 1967. In the subsequent years, number of students increased than Shri J. L. Varshney was appointed as lecturer in Botany. He served only for few months. After his resignation Shri A. B. Raizada was the new man in the deptt. ontemporary basis upto June 1971. In 1971, Dr. S. C. Sharma was appointed on probation to fill the vacancy. In July 1972, Dr.Sharma left the deptt. Since he was appointed as senior Research Fellow at the Saurashtra University Rajkot. Dr. R. P. Yadav was appointed on 4-9-1972 to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Dr. Sharma. Due to the increase in student strength, one more Lecturer’s post was created in the session 1972-73 and Dr. A. K. Gupta was appointed to fill the post on 16-9-72. There was a further increase in no. of students in the subject Shri R. P. Saraswat was appointed on an adhoc basis for the session 1973-74. But due to sudden decrease in number of students next year this 5th lecturer’s post could not be sanctioned by the authorities.
